The Southern Mallee Transport Connections Partnership (SMTCP) surveyed the Wycheproof and Lalbert communities in 2008, in order to identify the transport gaps.
The survey identified that people living in these communities needed to travel to Swan Hill to access specialist medical care, shops and services, as well as to meet up with family and friends who lived there.
As a result of this survey the SMTCP formed a partnership with Swan Hill Bus Lines in 2009 in order to develop a new trial bus service service between Wycheproof / Lalbert and Swan Hill, in order to fully ascertain the public need for such a service.
The trial service was an outstanding success, and Public Transport Victoria went on to undertake a formal bus trial as a result. The formal trial service also proved to be a success, and Public Transport Victoria resolved to continue to fund the bus service on a recurrent basis.
This was a fantastic outcome for the Wycheproof and Lalbert communities, with a new weekly bus service providing vital access to these small townships.
The Wycheproof to Swan Hill Bus Service runs every Thursday (via Lalbert) and all relevant passenger concessions apply.
